Last Thursday evening saw the latest event to be organised by the APM’s North West branch take place in Preston. The Introduction to Project Management and Risk Management evening was organised in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and was held at the offices of the TAS Partnership.
These events always prove to be a good networking opportunity, along with a chance to learn more about other organisations as well as finding out more about what is current and relevant in project management today. This event proved to be no exception, and saw a healthy turnout for a Thursday evening session.
Following a useful insight into TAS and how they have had a major impact in transport policy and development since their inception, Graham Woodward presented the main lecture of the evening.
It’s always interesting to hear an individual’s take on Project Management as a profession and what makes a successful project / Project Manager. This is essentially what Graham delivered at a high level, eschewing the benefits of effective communication and Stakeholder Management as key areas in affecting a projects’ success. Nothing particularly ground breaking on the surface then, but when placed in the context of individual experience I think there was something to be gained for even the most experienced project professional. In particular, those who were new to project management or were looking to take it up as a career would have found it particularly thought provoking I’m sure.
These events always prove to be a good sounding board for like minded professionals and the APM’s local branches are constantly holding events up and down the country. To find out what is happening in your area take a look at the link.
